He joined the faculty at the University of Waterloo in 1996, where he is currently Professor and, since 2010, Department Chair in Systems Design Engineering. He has held visiting appointments at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, at INRIA/Sophia in France, at the Cambridge Research Laboratory in Boston, at Oxford University and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in England, and with postdoctoral positions in Computer Science at the University of Toronto and in Information and Decision Systems at MIT.
