He is interested in the semantic segmentation of sea ice using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and passive microwave (PM) data to improve Indigenous community safety, climate modelling, and ship navigation.

Jayden completed a BASc in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2024. His research is generously funded by the Engineering Excellence Master’s Fellowship.

She is a member of the Vision and Image Processing (VIP) Lab’s Remote Sensing Group, where her research focuses on deep learning approaches for fusing visible and infrared measurements with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and passive microwave (PM) data. This work investigates if incorporating visible infrared measurements can enhance multi-task sea ice parameter estimation in regions that pose challenges for SAR and PM data.

Lily graduated from Queen’s University in 2023, where she completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Engineering Physics Computing.

Interested in imaging and remote sensing systems, computer vision, optics, electronic hardware design, and signal processing. Motivated by problems in climate science and medicine. His thesis was titled “Mixture Regression for Sea Ice Segmentation” where he introduced mixture regression as a general technique for unsupervised clustering on nonstationary datasets.

Pena Cantu and I am a MASc student with the VIP Lab’s Remote Sensing Group. My current research focuses on investigating the relationship between textural features and the incidence angle in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery for sea ice classification. This topic has important implications for understanding the effects of SAR imaging parameters on sea ice detection and classification.

I am also involved in research on deep learning for sea ice segmentation and small object detection for whale surveying.

My research interests span a variety of topics in remote sensing, including synthetic aperture radar, textural features, deep learning, sea ice segmentation, domain adaptation, feature selection, and diffusion models. I am excited to continue exploring these areas and contributing to the advancement of remote sensing technologies.
