Auguste earned his BASc degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2021. He is currently pursuing an MASc degree under the supervision of Professor Paul Fieguth. His main research is focused on detecting near misses from video of vehicular and pedestrian traffic; this project is in collaboration with Miovision. In addition, he is a collaborator on the Federated Learning for Robot Picking (FLAIROP) project, in which he works on inferring object relationships from images.

Postdoctoral Fellow Ph.D.

Amir has years of experience in machine learning, computer vision and has been a part of multiple interdisciplinary teams, including a research lab in Korea, a joint research project with Microsoft, and a collaboration with the Faculty of Health at the University of Waterloo. Amir is interested in video analysis and particularly long video object segmentation and continual/lifelong learning.

He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Sport Analytic Research Group, which is led by Prof. David Clausi.

He particularly enjoys working with scientists from various fields to develop new skills and face new challenges.

Based on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) he is an INFJ-type type person.

Jinman (Eddie) Park is a doctoral student in Systems Design Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Paul Fieguth and Prof. David Clausi. His thesis work is on superpixel salient object detection supported by Microsoft Office Media Group to perceive images in an abstract way. He is also involved with various other research areas such as egocentric pose estimation, unsupervised domain adaptation, and sea ice classification.

Nicholas Pellegrino completed his master’s degree in Systems Design Engineering in 2022. He was associated with PhotoMedicine Labs and the Vision and Image Processing (VIP) Lab, and was co-supervised by Dr. Parsin Haji Reza and Prof. Paul Fieguth. His main research contributions were in the areas of signal processing, multi-spectral unmixing, and chromophore-selective PARS® imaging with applications in PARS histology and ophthalmology. Nicholas was awarded the Alumni Gold Medal, which recognizes the top graduating master’s student across the whole university for their academic achievement.

Nicholas graduated from Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2019 and completed his master’s degree with PhotoMedicine labs in 2022.

Nicholas Pellegrino

Nicholas Pellegrino is a doctoral student in Systems Design Engineering, supervised by Prof. Paul Fieguth and associated with the Vision and Image Processing (VIP) Lab and the Statistical Image Processing (SIP) Lab. His main research focus is on machine vision, specifically object recognition. In support of the BIOSCAN program, associated with the International Barcode of Life project, Nicholas has undertaken the task of taxonomic order-level insect image classification. Broadly, this research will enable a far more extensive and detailed understanding of global biodiversity and the interactions between species and ecosystems.

During his master’s degree (also in Systems Design Engineering), Nicholas was associated with PhotoMedicine Labs, and was co-supervised by Dr. Parsin Haji Reza and Prof. Paul Fieguth.
